The movie is not perfect by any means Kristin Stewarts Bella is flat and unengaging, Pattinson (unknown prior to this movie) is clearly above the material and there are moments when the movie turns into an advertisement for Volvo! The movie still holds up twelve years after it's release. The movie is very haunting and eerie at times and there are some standout moments that still engage Rachelle Lefevre's Victoria is especially arresting. It was produced on a low budget before the Twilight Saga became a huge commercial behemoth which altered the style of the movies that followed that were more conventional and creatively less risky, and the original movie deserves credit for this. The point of interest regarding this movie is that Director Catherine Hardwicke directs with a certain amount of indie style to the picture. Both parties are allegories for the type of boys Stephanie Meyer must have deliberated over back-in-the-day when she was growing up in a mormon community. Bella is also the object of affections of another young boy from the 'wrong side of the tracks' known as Jacob who turns out to be a werewolf (played by Taylor Lautner). Hi, this is the first in the series of adaptations of Stephanie Meyer's novels about the young girl Bella who migrates to a remote rural community to live with her father, and ends up developing a crush on a young buy who turns out to be a vampire (Edward Cullen played by Robert Pattinson).
